AsSalaamu °aleikum wa rahmatuLlahi ta°ala wa barakaatuh respected Mufti saab,

I would like to ask you something about the following hadith:

Citazione:

I found it on an italian translation of the Kitab atTawhid from Sheikh °AbdulWahhab rahmatuLlahi °alayhi, and it is written it comes from the sahih of Ibn Hibban.

In the italian translation رضا النفس is 'satisfaction of both' and شقاء النفس is 'unsatisfaction of both', referring to the people and Allah.
Is this translation correct?

When I posted it an arabic brother observed that the word 'nafs' mean 'soul' or 'self'. Therefore it should refer to the satisfaction/unsatisfaction of his own soul/self. Is it correct?

Jaza°kum Allahu khair

Fabrizio Jusuf Tarenti

P.S.: I apologize for my very bad english and I hope it is understandable.

AsSalaamu °aleikum wa rahmatuLlahi ta°ala wa barakaatuh respected Mufti saab,

Vorrei chiederle in merito al seguente hadith:

Citazione:

E' corretto?

Allah la ricompensi

Wa'alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

After much search through Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān, I could not locate the exact wordings of the narration as you have quoted. I really doubt that it is in Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān. If it is, can you please forward me the scan of the page? In fact, I could not find those words in any other kitāb, in spite of an exhaustive search.
Nevertheless, I have found this narration with the following wording in Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān:

‘Ayeshā (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with her) says that Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم said, “Whoever pleases Allah at the cost of the anger of people, Allah will suffice for him. And whoever angers Allah by pleasing people Allah will hand him over to people.” (Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān 1/511)

This same narration with the same wording is also in Musan ash-Shihāb (1/301) and Musnad ‘Abd bin al-Ḥumaid 1/440)
In al-Mu’jam al-Kabīr of Imām aṭ-Ṭabrāni, it is narrated with the following words,

Ibn ‘Abbās (May Allah Ta'ala be pleased with him) nnarrates that Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم said, “Whoever displeases Allah by making people happy, Allah will become angry with him and also make those people angry with him whom he tried to please by displeasing Allah. And pleases Allah by displeasing people, Allah will become pleased with him and even make those people pleased with him whom he displeased by pleasing Allah, to such an extent that Allah will beautify him, his speech and his actions in that persons (whom he displeased).” )Al-Mu’jam al-Kabīr 11/268)

In Musand Isḥaq bin Rahūyah it comes with the following wording,

In Sunan at-Tirmidhi it is narrated with the following wording,

The brother is correct, nafs' mean 'soul' or 'self'. Thus, رضا النفس would mean ‘pleasure of the soul and شقاء النفس would mean wretchedness of the heart.

And Allah Ta’ālā knows best

Wassalam

Ua °aleikum Salaam ua rahmatuLlahi ta°ala ua barakaatuhu ua Jazakum Allahu khair for the great help and clarification,

actually I can't find anymore the source of the arabic hadith I wrote.
I checked on my translation of Kitab ut-Tauhid and there is only the italian translation, and the meaning is almost the same of the hadith you reported from Ibn Hibban.
